7 Years of Buttonup: The Numbers Behind Our Impact

Buttonup started in 2019 with a simple idea: local crafts can become fair, sustainable work. Seven years later, here is what that idea has become.

- 83,720 handmade products sold
- 3,437 women and youth trained
- 30,000 hours of self-employment production
- 12 crafts practised across 10 governorates
- 85 clients and partners, and 135 B2B orders

The projects behind the numbers
Tamkeny East & West, with United Energy Egypt, launched in Ras Ghareb in 2022 and expanded to El Hamam in 2025. It has engaged more than 750 participants, who have produced over 11,000 products in sewing, embroidery, leatherwork, pottery and upcycling.
Taproot, with Emirates NBD Egypt, trained 560 women and youth in eco-friendly production, from recycled tires to textiles, pottery and food products.
Threads brought more than 400 women in five governorates into sewing, embroidery, leatherwork and pottery. Their work is now available in the Threads by Buttonup collection.
